Four killed in fatal truck and taxi collision

Vereeniging police are investigating a case of culpable homicide following a fatal accident that claimed four lives.

STEELPARK – Four people were killed in the early hours of Sunday when a truck and a taxi collided.

According to police, at approximately 01:45, they were alerted to a serious accident at the intersection of Boy Louw Road and Houtkop Road in Vereeniging.

Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela said,
“On arrival, police members found that a Toyota Quantum minibus taxi had collided with a Mercedes truck.”

Preliminary reports indicate that the truck was travelling from Vanderbijlpark towards Three Rivers on Houtkop Road.

“The collision happened when the truck was crossing the intersection and collided with the taxi, travelling from Sebokeng towards Vereeniging on Boy Louw Road,” added Maxambela.

She further told Ster that the taxi allegedly failed to stop and crashed into the trailer of the truck.

“Four people were declared deceased on the scene, including three male passengers and one female. One is the driver of the taxi. Four more passengers sustained serious injuries and were transported to hospital for urgent medical care,” she said.

A case of culpable homicide has been opened and investigations are underway.

Acting District Commissioner Brigadier Mbwangwa Nkwashu urged all motorists to exercise extreme caution on the roads, obey traffic rules, and respect road signs to prevent unnecessary loss of life.
