Education Department mourns the passing of a Grade 10 pupil

The circumstances surrounding his death are being investigated.

VANDERBIJLPARK – A Grade 10 learner at El Shaddie Christian School in Vanderbijlpark has tragically passed on.

Circumstances surrounding the death remain a mystery; however, according to the Department of Education, the pupil fell ill on Thursday, November 6, while at home.

The pupil was later confirmed dead by Emergency Services after the family called them.

The Gauteng Department of Education spokesperson, Steve Mabona, confirmed the incident.

“The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. The department has dispatched the psych support team to the school to provide necessary support,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the MEC of the department, Mabona said Matome Chiloane has since sent condolences to the affected family.

“We are heartbroken by the tragic incident, and the department extends its deepest sympathies to the bereaved family and the school community,” said Mabona.
