VANDERBIJLPARK – Born and bred in the Vaal, author Itumeleng Mashea is proving that township dreams can come true.
Through her newly released novel, When Blood Turns Cold, Mashea tells a tale that cuts deep, laced with pain, patience, and purpose.
Speaking to Ster South, the young author from Sebokeng described her book as a powerful tale of love, jealousy, betrayal, and redemption.
Mashea added that her book reflects the fragile threads of family bonds and the resilience of the human heart when tested by life’s harshest trials.
“Every great story has its own journey, and for When Blood Turns Cold, that journey began in 2017. What started as a simple idea grew into something far more profound, a mirror of our emotions and the choices that define us,” she said.
Set right here in the Vaal, the novel follows two siblings, Olerato and Olesego, whose once unbreakable bond is ripped apart by envy and ambition.
Mashea said the story mirrors real life and how love can turn cold when jealousy creeps in.
Touching on her journey during the writing process of her book, Mashea said, “I started writing in 2017, but life kept getting in the way. I stopped, I lost hope, but the story never left my heart.”
“Sometimes our stories take longer to be born because we need to grow into them,” she added.
After years of personal setbacks and emotional battles, Mashea finally held her dream in her hands.
The first print edition of her dream novel was released on September 8.
“This book is proof that even when things don’t go as planned, purpose has perfect timing,” she said.
