Man killed in Sharpeville stabbing

An alleged squabble over money has left a family reeling following the brutal killing of their loved one at the hands of a lover.

SHARPEVILLE – A 32-year-old man was stabbed to death in the early hours of December 27.
The victim, identified as Nelson Vilanculo, was found in a pool of blood by a passerby who was going to work.

According to information received by Ster, the deceased was killed following an alleged quarrel with his lover and another unknown suspect.

Speaking to the media, family spokesperson Dito Mapandzene said the family was informed of Nelson’s death shortly after his lifeless body was found.

“We understand that his girlfriend arrived in the early hours of the morning while he was asleep and demanded money. What followed remains a shocking revelation,” he said.

Dito added that the family is struggling to come to terms with the brutal killing.

“The whole ordeal deeply saddens us. Words can’t begin to describe how we feel as a family. We have lost a good man,” he said.

Confirming the incident, the Sharpeville Police said officers were called to the scene where the deceased was discovered.

“The deceased was found lying on the ground next to a small gate, not far from his room, with a deep wound to his upper body,” said spokesperson Sergeant Busisiwe Sango.

“According to a family member, some personal items belonging to Nelson were missing,” Sango added.

At this stage, no arrests have been made.

The murder investigation continues.
