VANDERBIJLPARK – Residents of C.E. 5 were left in shock and disbelief after a man was found dead inside an Audi A4 parked at the Vanderbijlpark Cemetery on Monday (January 12).
According to police reports, the shocking discovery was made after a passerby noticed the vehicle parked suspiciously inside the cemetery and alerted police. Officers responded to the scene and found the car locked, with the man’s head on the steering wheel.
“They found the man with a gunshot wound to the right side of his head and a pistol inside the vehicle,” said police spokesperson Sergeant Sabelo Sigcu.
The man was certified dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
Sigcu said they have opened an inquest docket, and investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
At this stage, authorities have not confirmed whether foul play is suspected or if the incident may be linked to suicide.
