VANDERBIJLPARK – A Bedworthpark woman cheated death on Wednesday morning (February 25) when her vehicle was hit by a truck.

The incident happened at the corner of Janus Road and Cassandra Avenue at approximately 08:30. The accident left the truck in a ditch and the Polo next to it.
According to an eyewitness who spoke to Ster in anonymity, the woman was not the only person who almost lost her life.

“I was walking towards Riverbank when I heard a loud bang as I passed the intersection. When I was passing there, a woman driving a blue Polo had stopped for a moment at the stop sign, and just when she was about to jump onto Cassandra Avenue, the truck hit her.”

“All I could remember was seeing the Polo coming my way before I jumped into the nearby bush. The truck plunged into the ditch right after striking the woman,” said the man who believed he also cheated death.

“I’m still shaking. I would have been dead by now. Too many road accidents are happening in the Vaal; one can never be safe. I’m glad the woman is still alive,” he added.

When Ster visited the scene, several ambulance services, including ER24, Gauteng Emergency Medical Services, and Cert-SA, were there.

The woman who was trapped in the driver’s seat sat still while medics wrecked parts of her vehicle to save her.
This was after medics were seen stabilising her.

A few moments after she was freed, the woman was placed on a stretcher and rushed to a nearby hospital.

Vereeniging police later arrived on the scene to take statements.

The driver of the truck and his passenger were also monitored on scene for injuries.
Ster reached out to police, but at the time of going to print, no comment was received.
