Two suspects arrested following a dramatic bust

Barrage police officers arrested two suspects, found an unlicensed firearm and knife, while the vehicle was confirmed as suspected stolen.

BARRAGE – A routine police patrol turned into a dramatic chase on the morning of March 24, after officers cornered four men in a suspected stolen car.

At around 11:00, officers from the Visible Policing (Vispol) unit were conducting normal crime prevention duties when they spotted a blue Toyota Venture.

As the police pulled up to a stop sign, the four men inside the vehicle suddenly jumped out and ran off in different directions.

In a dramatic playout, one of the suspects doubled back and jumped back into the car to drive off, while the others continued to flee on foot.

This forced the officers to split up; some chased the getaway vehicle, while others ran after the men on foot.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Sophia Gaboutlwelwe confirmed that officers successfully caught two of the men who had tried to run away.

When they searched one of them, they found an unlicensed gun and a knife.

“The members who pursued the vehicle established that it was suspected to be stolen,” Gaboutlwelwe confirmed.

The suspects currently in custody faces charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of a suspected stolen vehicle.

Investigations are ongoing.
