De Deur SAPS and Youth Structure unite to empower children

SAPS in De Deur, in partnership with the De Deur Youth Development Structure, hosted an educational initiative to empower crèche children and parents with knowledge on preventing abuse, fostering open communication, and strengthening family bonds.

A team from De Deur SAPS recently joined forces with De Deur Youth Development Structure in a remarkable initiative aimed at empowering creche children with vital knowledge to safeguard themselves against abuse.

The impactful event brought parents, creche teachers, principals, and young learners together to foster a culture of awareness and open communication.

Speaking to Ster North, police spokesperson Constable Mampho Mahlomola says the SAPS team, alongside esteemed partners, sensitised parents on the importance of nurturing a strong bond with their children.

“Parents can achieve this by creating a haven for kids to voice concerns and share experiences.”
Mahlomola says the day was packed with action, featuring engaging games and interactive sessions designed to bridge the gap between parents and their children.

Acting Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Bertie Van Der Ryst lauded the De Deur Youth Structure for organising the event. She emphasised the significance of such initiatives in cultivating a safer, more compassionate community.

The success of the event is due to the collective efforts of the South African Police Service’s Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, the Department of Community Safety, Department of Social Development, De Deur Youth Desk, Community Policing Forum (CPF), Arise Ma-Afrika NGO, and Lesedi la Batjha NGO.
