Redan illegal dumping site clean-up underway
A coordinated multi-agency operation has finally begun clearing the long-standing illegal dumping site in Redan, following months of complaints from frustrated residents.
VEREENIGING – The long-awaited clean-up of the illegal dumping site at Redan began this week.
On Wednesday, members of the Emfuleni Local Municipality’s waste management team, the police, Gauteng Traffic Wardens and metro police were on scene assisting with the operation.
According to Meyerton police spokesperson, Constable Nompumelelo Zazini, the operation follows an Intergovernmental Relations meeting held late last year to address growing concerns about crime, illegal dumping and unsafe living conditions in the area.

Multiple provincial departments and law enforcement agencies are involved, including immigration officials, metro traffic officers, SAPS members, peace officers, and the Emfuleni Local Municipality’s waste department.
Authorities say the site has become a hotspot for criminal activity and even illegal initiation practices.
The SAPS K9 unit was also on scene as part of the operation.

Zazini says the clean-up process could take up to a week to complete.
Residents have previously raised concerns about ongoing fires at the site and the health risks linked to illegal dumping.
Authorities say this coordinated effort aims to restore order and improve safety in the area.
