VILJOENSDRIF – What started as a social drinking spree between an employer and employee ended in a bloody, deadly horror at the Vaal Racecourse over the weekend.
A 73-year-old man was killed on April 4, following a heated argument over horse racing bets. Police have arrested a 55-year-old suspect in connection with the brutal murder.
This comes after a 55-year-old stabbed his 73-year-old employer in a brutal attack following a heated argument over horse betting winnings.
According to Fezile Dabi Police spokesperson Sergeant Josephine Rani, the two men lived on the racecourse premises and were drinking together when the atmosphere turned sour.
The disagreement reportedly broke out over money won from horse racing. The argument escalated quickly, and the suspect allegedly attacked the elderly employer with a spade.
Following the incident, the suspect reportedly approached a security officer and confessed to what had happened. Emergency services were called to the scene immediately.
“When emergency services arrived, the elderly victim was found lying unresponsive inside his residence. He was declared dead,” said Rani.
The suspect is currently behind bars facing a murder charge. He is expected to appear in the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court.
