Tragedy as construction worker dies in freak accident

A tragic workplace accident in Orange Farm has claimed the life of a female employee. Local authorities are now investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal event.

ORANGE FARM – Police in Orange Farm are investigating an inquest docket following a freak accident at a construction site that claimed the life of a female employee.

Officers were called to the site in Ext 8A after the incident.

According to official reports, the woman died from head injuries after she was buried by soil while a trench was being excavated.

Orange Farm Police spokesperson Sergeant Shaan Motsapi confirmed to Ster that the police arrived at the scene at approximately 12:15.

“Upon arrival at the scene, police discovered the lifeless body of the worker who was wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) at the time of the incident,” he said.

Motsapi relayed an eyewitness account of the incident, who was allegedly working alongside the deceased.

“Workers were busy performing their duties while an excavator dug a trench. During this process, the soil accidentally collapsed onto the victim. She sustained head injuries and succumbed to her injuries at the scene,” the colleague reported.

An inquest docket has now been registered as police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
