ANC bigwig blasts ‘greedy cadres’

A senior ANC leader says selfish comrades are putting their own ambitions before the people, and it's threatening the party's election fight.

SEDIBENG — With fewer than 100 days to go before the Local Government Elections, the ANC in Gauteng is grappling with severe internal divisions as a senior leader has condemned members for putting personal ambition ahead of the organisation.

Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, the Gauteng Provincial Deputy Co-ordinator, issued a stern warning against what she termed a new tendency of members prioritising self-interest over service to the public.

She stated that certain individuals only celebrate when they or their preferred candidates secure powerful positions, but turn against the party when they do not get their own way.

According to Nkomo-Ralehoko, this destructive behaviour includes disrupting party meetings, sabotaging election campaigns, attacking the movement on social media, discouraging supporters from participating in ANC programmes, and undermining deployed leaders from rival factions.

She warned that such actions are destroying the ANC’s culture of discipline and collective leadership.

“The movement cannot successfully contest elections while carrying this political culture unchecked,” she said.

Emphasising that the ANC belongs to the people of South Africa rather than factions, slates, or individuals, Nkomo-Ralehoko insisted these members must be politically rehabilitated and reminded that joining the ANC is about serving South Africans, not chasing positions or personal rewards.

Her remarks highlight growing concern across Gauteng as party branches prepare for the upcoming polls amidst fears that internal fractures could severely weaken the party’s election campaign.
