The Meyerton SAPS Visible Policing and Social Crime Prevention units recently partnered with the Department of Community Safety and Agape Lerato Community Services to engage the community living in and around Sicelo.

The meeting addressed various issues faced by the community, including alcohol abuse, the rise in assault cases, crime hotspots in the area, gangsterism in schools, learner transport bullying, missing persons cases, and the revival of CPF Sector Forums and School Safety Forums.

Addressing members of the community, Vispol Commander Lieutenant Christiaan Fredericks De Winnaar said police officers attached to the station had been deployed to various areas to address and curb crime.
Captain Christian Mthimkhulu sensitised the community about the upcoming initiation school period.

“During this time, we get high reports of missing persons. Please ensure the safety of your kids and make sure that you always know their whereabouts.” Mthimkhulu said that police would remain on high alert.

The Victim Friendly Room Co-ordinator, Warrant Officer Seipati Mohlapholi, informed the community about the services offered at Meyerton Police Station, including counselling on socio-economic factors and emotional containment, adding that the facility also serves as a safe place for victims of crime.

The New Sector 1 Manager, Constable Millicent Jelani, urged the community to work with the police and strengthen the relationship by sharing information.

“The Meyerton SAPS still has the community interest at heart. We are still committed to serving our communities with pride and dignity,” she said.
