SASOLBURG – A woman’s walk through a Sasolburg greenbelt turned into a nightmare when she was allegedly confronted by two men, with one pulling a knife on her before her handbag was snatched.
According to Fezile Dabi District police spokesperson Sergeant Josephine Rani, the incident happened on October 2 at about 14:30 in the greenbelt near Piet Retief Street.
Rani said the complainant noticed two men, with one walking ahead of her and the other behind her.
The front man allegedly turned around, pulled out a knife, and pointed it at her.
“She screamed for help, but the second suspect allegedly grabbed her handbag. The pair then fled with her belongings. The terrified woman made her way to the main road, where she found traffic officers and asked them to help contact the police,” she said.
Rani added that police later received information about the suspects’ identities and whereabouts and rushed to the identified address.
Both suspects were found at the premises.
“A search allegedly led police to the complainant’s stolen belongings, including a beige and pink handbag, a Samsung A4 cellphone and a purse containing several cards,” she said.
The two suspects, aged 32 and 37, are expected to appear in the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court today (October 5), facing a charge of robbery with a weapon other than a firearm.
