Emergency crews thwart suicide attempt

“On arrival we found a male patient +/- 6 meters up in a tree and had tied a rope around his neck and around a branch and was held up by a very small side branch.”

MEYERTON.- A timely intervention by emergency crews saved a man’s life after he had tried to commit suicide.

On Wednesday evening around 22h15, CERT-Sa: Parys / Vaal crew received a call for an attempted suicide in Meyerton.

“On arrival, we found a male patient +/- 6 meters up in a tree and had tied a rope around his neck and around a branch and was held up by a very small side branch.”

Our crew immediately contacted Midvaal Fire to assist in getting the patient down as he was too high and feared that the small branch holding him up would break, causing the patient to fall and hang himself.”

Midvaal fire promptly responded and rescued the patient from the tree.”

The patient was assessed on scene and transported to a nearby hospital in a stable condition.
