VEREENIGING. – The ANC has retained Ward 16 of the Emfuleni Local Municipality following Wednesday’s by-election.
Voters from Rust ter Vaal, Ramaphosa Informal Settlement, Redan, Waldrift and Arcon Park took to the poles on 13th of March in a by-election.
The position of ward councillor was left vacant following the passing of Councillor, Madoda ‘Tata’ Mkhumbeni (ANC), who died in November last year, following a short illness.
Voting took place between 07:00 and 21:00 and the results were announced in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The ANC’s candidate Taliyana Zinyana emerged victorius after receiving 37.51% of the votes, followed by the PA’s Victor Renatial Taks (32.61%).
The DA’s Grace Damon came third with 26.25% of the votes, while the EFF’s Catherine Wilson received 1.84% per cent of the votes.
TRUTH’s little-known candidate, Isaac Mzobe, only received 3 votes (0.07%).
According to the IEC a total of 4 465 people voted in the by-election.

PA: 1 456 (32,61%)
DA: 1 172 (26,25%
ANC: 1 675 (37,51%)
EFF: 82 (1.84%)
TRUTH: 3 (0.07%)
