SASOLBURG.- Two suspects are to appear before the Sasolburg Magistrate court today for the possession of illegal cigarettes.

In a statement police spokesperson Sergeant Josephine Rani said the foreign couple aged between 23 and 34 was arrested in Sasolburg for possession of illicit cigarettes worth R42 000.

“It is alleged that on Saturday, April 06 at about 21:30, the Sasolburg highway patrol members were patrolling the R82 when they came across a white Nissan NP200 bakkie. The members stopped the vehicle and found the two occupants.”

They requested to search the vehicle and discovered 3500 sealed packets of illicit cigarettes estimated to the value of R42 000.”

Rani said while the members were interviewing the couple, they discovered that the driver has no relevant document to be in South Africa.
