Brain Washers Netball Club crowned Netball Tournament Champions

“I want to thank all the teams who made this tournament possible."

SHARPEVILLE.- The Brain Washers Netball team from Soweto was crowned the Netball Tournament Champions.

This tournament which was organised by Avalon Netball Club with the main purpose of fundraising took place at Sharpeville Netball Court on Saturday. The tournament was divided into two categories, namely u/15 and 19.

Brains Washers Netball Club were crowned the tournament champions after they beat Net Netball Club 15-13 in the final. It was a great final with both teams displaying quality netball games bothered by some physicality with the court slippery due to the rain.

It was goal after goal with both teams canceling each other after one had scored, however, eventually Brain Washers Netball Club emerged as the winners. The tournament was part of fundraising for Avalon Netball Club. The winners received a netball kit, and medals for their effort.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Dudu Msane said the tournament was to raise funds for the club’s u/15 team with the league about to start, there will be a lot of traveling. Msane said unlike in the past when they would play their games only in Sharpeville, this time around they will play as far as Meyerton, Sebokeng.

Msane, former Sedibeng Netball President said the biggest challenge for all the Sedibeng netball teams is a lack of sponsorship. For example, this is a challenge whenever Sedibeng Regional Netball Teams have to participate in the Netball National Championships held in Cape Town every year.

Apart from fundraising, Msane said the aim was also to attract more u/19 players because they have few players for this age category.

“I want to thank all the teams who made this tournament possible and despite the rain, we had a great day. We want to thank Brain Washers Netball Club for traveling from Soweto to come and be part of this tournament. This shows their commitment and it came as no surprise when they were crowned the tournament champions,” she said.

Meanwhile, the u/15 tournament finals are scheduled to take place this coming Sunday at the same venue. The u/15 final could notplay because of the rain.
