SEDIBENG – With the DSTV Diski Challenge (DDC) for the 2024/25 season that just started, top-flight football will be back in Sedibeng. Sedibeng Ster Sport can reveal that Sedibeng will host some of the DDC games at the Isak Steyl Stadium.
This means local soccer fans will now have the opportunity to watch their favourite PSL club babies in action right on their doorsteps. Sedibeng Ster Sport reported earlier that weekends will never be the same again for local soccer fans as the Motsepe Foundation Championship teams that played their home games here has been relocated back to their respective provinces.
For example, teams such as Platinum City Rovers, Marumo Gallants and NB La Masia used the Isak Steyl Stadium for their home games last season.
Back to DDC, Polokwane City was supposed to host Royal AM at the Isak Steyl Stadium on Saturday, but the game was postponed.
Weekends have been eventless for fans without top-flight football. However, the good news for them is that they will once again enjoy top-flight football here in Sedibeng. This is something to be celebrated taking into consideration how passionate local soccer fans are about football.
They packed the stadium to capacity last season to watch either the Motsepe Foundation Championships or the DDC games on weekends. All Sedibeng Ster Sport can say is that top-flight football will be back in Sedibeng. It is possible that local soccer fans will be able to watch the babies of their favourite teams like Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns in action.
These teams have a galaxy of local talent to their disposal. One of the local boys who’s doing well in the DDC is the Sebokeng-based Naledi Hlongwane. Hlongwane is one of the youngsters that made his presence known in the DDC during the past four games. He was on the score sheet when Amakhosi’s babies beat Golden Arrows 2-0. He was also instrumental when the reserve team for Chiefs beat Chippa United 2-1 over the weekend.
