A successful celebration of unity by Mahata-Mmoho
“Heritage Day is not just about the past, it’s about the present and the future."
SEBOKENG.- The Mahata-Mmoho Foundation held a successful Heritage Day event at Gaza Church in Zone 16, Sebokeng recently.
The event was organised under the theme: Celebrating our diversity, embracing our unity as a community. The programme began in the morning with the welcoming of doctors who graced the event with their expertise in the field of medicine, giving free diagnosis to the masses who attended the event. The doctors who offered their services included an Optometrist, Dietician, Podiatrist, Dentist, Physiotherapist, Audiologist and Phlebotomist (blood tests).
While the doctors were still busy, the programme director proceeded with the event with Reverend Alex Bottoman opening with a prayer. The keynote speaker, Ward 30 councillor Bennet ‘Silver’ Jantjie, represented the executive mayor of the Emfuleni Local Municipality, Sipho Radebe, who could not make it to the event.
“Heritage Day is not just about the past, it’s about the present and the future. It’s about recognising the struggles and triumphs of our forebearers and building on their legacy.” Jantjie also spoke about the importance of heritage sites. These sites remind us of our complex history, of our battles fought and won, and the sacrifices made for our freedom.”
The Mahata-Mmoho Foundation members thanked the sponsors and all who made the event possible, including members of the community who prepared food for everybody that attended. The crowd was treated to vibrant cultural music and food well into the afternoon.
