SEDIBENG.- This is the second last publication before we put pens and notebooks down for Christmas break. It was a great year for some and not so great for others.
Some would want to forget this year very quickly.
Before Zakes’ Sports Corner says goodbye to all our readers, let me share this with you. Yours truly, Zakes’ Sports Corner’s best youth days were the few days before Christmas. I would sit in the kitchen and watch my mother bake some cakes for Christmas. It has been a while since I sat in the kitchen with my mother because she is no more!
But those who still have mothers, use this year’s Christmas to sit down in the kitchen to reflect and make this day memorable. Talking about Christmas, this day will always be as long as we stand hand-in-hand. It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Christmas is not just a day – it’s a frame of mind. It’s a season not only of rejoicing but of reflection. Reflection is the time to reflect on what we have achieved as a community and as individuals in 2024.
What have we done that will make us look back and say: “This is what we achieved this past year?”
Zakes’ Sports Corner challenges everyone in the Sedibeng community, young and old, to use this year’s Christmas to reflect on what we have achieved in our different fields. There is a serious need for individual introspection to improve our community. There is so much that happened in our community – school children died because of food poisoning.
This might be the biggest news story of 2024.
You ask yourself, what does this have to do with Zakes’s Sports Corner? As a citizen and community member, this has everything to do with Zakes’ Sports Corner. This year’s Christmas must be our top priority, having a heart-to-heart discussion with ourselves. Let’s go back to the time when Christmas was spent with our families and loved ones, to reflect and look to the future. We should ask ourselves as a family and community what went wrong to deserve this kind of situation in our community where innocent children had to die from food poison.
Yes, you’re still reading Zakes’ Sports Corner in case you’re wondering… Have a safe festive season. Don’t forget, Christmas is not just a day – it’s a frame of mind.
It’s a season not only of rejoicing but of reflection.
