SHARPEVILLE.- Thabang Khobotlo, popularly known as ‘Zorba Sax Live’ is one of the best saxophonist from the Vaal to date.
He started his music journey in 2004 playing in the church Brass Band under Bishop Tea Tea. This was before he joined the current church Brass Band of Apostolic First Church (AFCA Brass) in 2005. Given his brief music background, Khobotlo worked with notable names in the music industry such as Big Band, Tshepiso Mpotle, Sfiso Ngwane, Lefa Pheto, Terrence Parker, DJ Goddard, Nana de Castro, and Sebata Aster to mention only a few.

Some of the high-profile local jazz bands he worked with include Mac’s Jays, Shaptown Swing Stars, Bow & Arrow. Hi rose to stardom when he performed at the popular Jazz By The River Festival with Mac’s Jays Band Club. In 2010 Khobotlo shared the stage with some big names in South African music like Lira, Wanda Baloi, and Bra Hugh Mafikizolo. The following year he performed with Tshepiso Mpotle at Macufe Gospel Festival.

“My dream is to grow the image of Vaal to the world and I don’t doubt that I’m moving in the right direction to make this happen. I want the Vaal to be recognised in the entertainment industry of the world. I’m working on my new single Ngiyaza X Zorba Sax Live which is expected to release at the end of this month. I want to give a big thanks to everyone who supported me from the beginning of my journey, especially my parents for always supporting me,” said Khobotlo.
Khobotlo is not just a saxophonist, he is also a music producer, composer, vocalist, songwriter, music lecturer, music motivator, and hard-working artist. He told Sedibeng Ster that he performs at funerals, weddings, gala dinners, tombstone ceremonies, and festivals. Last year he put the Vaal on the map when he performed at Econet Telecom Lesotho Festival in Maseru.
