33 suspects nabbed during weekend Operation Shanela

The main Operation was led by the Station Commander of Vereeniging SAPS, Brigadeir Sibongile Ndaba and Sebokeng SAPS Acting Station Commander Colonel Stofina Mofokeng.

SEBOKENG.- Efforts to curb the presence of various crimes in communities continue to yield successful outcomes following joint operations Shanela.

The operations were executed by Sedibeng District SAPS members from different units and police stations, CPF, Patrollers, Department of Community Safety, Vereeniging Peace Officers, Gauteng Traffic, Gauteng Traffic Wardens, Home Affairs and other law enforcement agencies in Sedibeng Policing precincts from Friday until Sunday.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane said that eight suspects were nabbed by their detectives during their tracing operations Shanela for the following crimes: Assault GBH, Assault common, Contempt of Court, and Gender Based Violence (GBV) related crimes.

On Saturday the main Operation was led by the Station Commander of Vereeniging SAPS, Brigadeir Sibongile Ndaba and Sebokeng SAPS Acting Station Commander Colonel Stofina Mofokeng.

Mokhachane said that over seventy-five SAPS members in collaboration with more than ninety law enforcement agencies conducted a stop and search, patrols around the area (Tuck-shops, Shopping Centers, Filling Stations, ATM’s, Taxi Ranks), further followed up on information for premises to be searched, whereby one illegal shebeen was closed and the owner arrested for selling liquor without a license, while one person was arrested for possession of illicit cigarettes.

A roadblock was also activated in Moshoeshoe street where more than fifteen AARTO fines were issued. While thirty suspects were arrested for drunk and driving, theft, possession of drugs, and undocumented persons were arrested with assistance from Home Affairs (Immigration).
