SEDIBENG.- The Vaal Marina Police are investigating after a suspect is believed to have raped a 12-year-old girl in Mamello Informal Settlement, Vaal Marina last week.

It is said that the young girl was playing with three other kids when a young man aged 17 called her to his house where he is said to have locked the door and raped her. Police spokesperson, Constable Tshilidzi de Huis said that the other kids went to call the neighbours when they realised that the young man had locked the door to his house.

The suspect has not been arrested yet as investigations continue.

“A case of rape has been opened and Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) District is investigating this matter. We are doing awareness every week about all the contact crimes including sexual offences in this area. We urge the community to please read the pamphlets (that we give them) and be educated. Let’s protect one another in the hands of rapists and abusers. We do not tolerate this kind of abuse in our area,” said De Huis.
