Motara engages Mega Project developers from Sedibeng
"There’s a great need for better coordination, facilitation and improved alignment with sister Departments for appropriate implementation."
SEDIBENG.- Gauteng Human Settlement MEC Tasneem Motara together with Acting HoD Puleng Gadebe-Mabaso and respective MMCs hosted an engagement with Mega Project developers from Sedibeng region this past week.
The engagement was part of a series of scheduled engagements with developers, per project and region.
The Human Settlement department said that the sessions are a continuation of earlier engagements with the broader cluster of developers and project managers. Three-year budget allocations were outlined, and the sessions also assessed the progress of projects and evaluated the performance of developers.

“Appointed developers are allocated housing units annually based on their performance. It is crucial for the Department to track performance and project progress, as this directly impacts the overall performance and service delivery. One of the reoccurring matters is the urgent need of social amenities in our Mega Projects. There’s a great need for better coordination, facilitation and improved alignment with sister Departments for appropriate implementation.”
Gadebe-Mabaso urged developers to adhere to the designated groups policy for appointment of women, youth, people living with disabilities and township SMMEs.
“These groups need to form part of the housing delivery value chain not only as labour but as suppliers as well. Sector Transformation Unit should play a monitoring role and consolidate data with the support of Regional Heads and Project Managers. Data for SMME participation must reflect on project reports and accompanied by a portfolio of evidence.”
