Planned water shutdown suspended for ELM consumers

"We sincerely apologies for the panic and inconvenienced caused to our communities."

SEDIBENG.- The Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) has said that a meeting of accounting officers and their representatives, the National Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Rand Water (RW), Metsimaholo Local Municipality (MLM), Municipal Infrastructure Support Agency (MISA), Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS), South African Local Government Association (SALGA) and Gauteng COGTA was held today to give feedback on progress from consultation with the Minister.

This is where, it is said, Rand Water reported that preliminary work was done, and tests were conducted with the aim of minimising disruptions. Following the preliminary work done, the three meters of ELM will not be currently impacted and supply of water for ELM will continue, however, the impact will remain for Metsimaholo Local Municipality (MLM) and Ngwathe Local Municipality (NLM).

The meeting raised the following issues as caution:

• The 16 Days Shutdown continues with impact on MLM and NLM.
• ELM must remain on high alert for unforeseen circumstances that may arise
and require water supply to be interrupted.
• All identified collection points within the affected wards will remain the same
and water tanks will be on standby when the needs arise.
• During the 16 days shutdown, a Joint Operation Centre (JOC) comprising of all
stakeholders will monitor progress and issue out regular communication.

“We sincerely apologies for the panic and inconvenienced caused to our communities,” the ELM said.
