PICS: 800m of illegal gill nets found at Vaal Dam

The Marine 1 rescue boat team was on-site, maintaining safety, with Swart commending the rescue workers for their vital support.

VAAL MARINA – Fishermen at Vaal Dam near Vaal Marina encountered approximately 800m of illegal gill nets, commonly found in secluded areas of the dam.

The nets contained various fish species, including sizable carp and yellowfish.

Midvaal councillor Pieter Swart said illegal gill net fishing poses a significant threat to biodiversity and creates safety hazards for recreational water users.

Swart expressed gratitude to these dedicated rescue workers for their invaluable service.
