Community unites to tackle crime at Meyerton Sector 3 Forum Meeting

Meyerton SAPS and community leaders pledged stronger partnerships and resource support to tackle crime at the recent Sector 3 Forum Meeting.

On the evening of June 2, 2025, the Meyerton SAPS held their monthly Sector 3 Forum Meeting at the Kookrus NG Kerk Hall, bringing together police officials, community members, and local leadership to address rising crime concerns in the area.

Acting Station Commander, Lt Col Johan De Winnaar, accompanied by Vispol management, Sector Manager Warrant Officer Gavin van Heerden, and Social Crime Prevention Coordinator Constable Nompumelelo Zazini, led the session.

Lt Col De Winnaar acknowledged ongoing issues with the police station’s landline due to Telkom disruptions and provided attendees with an alternative cellphone number for the Client Service Centre.

He reaffirmed the SAPS’s commitment to service delivery, explaining the functions of various Vispol components and stressing that despite challenges with sector vehicles, all available resources would be mobilized to maintain effective policing. The importance of community partnership was a key message, with a strong appeal for residents to actively report crime and collaborate with the Community Police Forum.

The local Ward 3 councillor was also in attendance, expressing her willingness to work closely with the community on safety initiatives and requesting to be included in future efforts aimed at improving public safety.

The meeting concluded with renewed commitment from both SAPS and the community to ongoing patrols, joint operations, and open communication in the fight against crime.
