The R59 highway between Vereeniging and Johannesburg is currently closed in both directions due to protest action. Motorists are being urged to use alternative routes and to exercise caution.

According to a WhatsApp group, the road is closed near Alberton and Meyerton in both the northbound and southbound directions. The M61 is being recommended as an alternative route.

“R59 is closed north and south. The alternative route is M61. Stay safe,” the notice reads.
