Seboka substation transformer installation meeting held

The substation supplies electricity to Zones 3, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, and part of Zone 13 (Sharpeville line), as well as part of Small Farm, Evaton.

SEBOKENG.- Ward 36 Councillor, Mpho ‘Fish’ Kolisang together with concerned community members met the management of national electricity supplier, Eskom, at their Houtkop offices in Sebokeng yesterday, Thursday.

The meeting, convened by Eskom at the request of Kolisang to addressed pressing issues surrounding the Seboka Substation.

The substation supplies electricity to Zones 3, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, and part of Zone 13 (Sharpeville line), as well as part of Small Farm, Evaton. Key discussion points that were included in the discussion were the load rotation where Kolisang and his entourage told Eskom management that the community, schools, clinics, and businesses have been significantly impacted (by load reduction).

“Eskom agreed to switch to a line with a protection unit, requiring a total shutdown (1-2 days), to suspend load rotation. The estimated completionis Sunday, June 15, Kolisang said.

Another issue that was raised was the installation of a permanent transformer that does not need constant monitoring and repairs.

“We expressed frustration with the slow pace of (the)installation, and Eskom committed to prioritising Sebokeng to fast-track transformer installations,” Kolisang said.

The meeting also aimed to address community concerns and find solutions to the electricity challenges.
