‘Where is our electricity?’ angry residents demand to know

Residents have only had electricity for one week this month.

VANDERBIJLPARK – The promise that the electricity issues in the CW areas and other surrounding regions would be resolved “no later than Sunday (22 June) at 21:00” has come and gone. The big question now is: How much longer is this going to take?

Councillor Gerda Senekal was at the Town Substation yesterday.

Thousands of households are affected by this.

To say that residents are upset and fed up is probably an understatement. Residents have only had electricity for one week this month.

People are angry and no longer believe anything they’re told. And rightly so—everyone is broke, and now they have to spend even more money just to stay afloat.

“Drop the excuses and do your job! The time for action has come,” one resident threatened on ELM’s Facebook page. That was one of the less aggressive messages circulating on social media.

What makes matters worse is the complete lack of transparency and proper communication with residents about the progress in solving the problem.

Councillor Gerda Senekal is, however, doing her best to keep the public informed.

She was seen again yesterday at the Town Substation. But from her body language, it was clear there was no hope that residents would have electricity again by last night.

Senekal, who wants to help the community, was even held hostage twice at the substation yesterday.

It seems residents are now starting to take their anger out on anyone nearby.

Senekal shared the news that the newly installed breaker is leaking gas. The problem will receive attention today, but whether it will be resolved today remains an open question.
