VAAL MARINA. – The Agape Lerato Community Services, in partnership with Vaal Marina SAPS, Siyabangena Patrollers and Vaal Triangle (AVT College) joined by Lesedi Local Municipality (LLM) officials hosted a successful exhibition and sport tournament at Mamello Informal Settlement on Saturday.

The event celebrated the month of June (Youth Month), providing entertainment and empowerment opportunities for local youth.

LLM’s MMC of Community Safety, Thulani Mashinini, made the key note address.

Vaal Marina police spokesperson, Constable Thabang Mothibe said Mashinini spoke about how charity begins at home emphasising on how school is important and sports for not only it builds one mental health but also physical health.

“The initiative aimed to bridge the information gap and support disadvantaged communities. Stakeholders offered guidance on applying for bursaries, college opportunities, also addressing the issue of GBV and community safety and life-improving services,” Mothibe said.

The sport tournament added a fun element, with aerobics taking place and also the medals and trophy awarded to the winning soccer team.

“This event marked a significant step towards empowering Mamello’s youth, and its success is a testament to the power of collaboration,” Mothibe said.
