VUT empowers young minds at Youth Day Career Expo

The event, organised as part of the June 16 celebrations, aimed to guide Grade 12 learners in making informed choices about their future careers.

VANDERBIJLPARK – The Vaal University of Technology (VUT), through its Department of Industrial Engineering, Operations Management and Mechanical Engineering (IEOMME), proudly participated in a Career Expo held at Hope Restoration Ministries Church in Kempton Park on Youth Day.
The event, organised as part of the June 16 celebrations, aimed to guide Grade 12 learners in making informed choices about their future careers.
The IEOMME department’s presence at the expo focused on promoting online applications for the 2026 academic year and providing learners with detailed information about the diverse courses and qualifications available within the faculty.
Representatives from the department engaged with hundreds of enthusiastic learners, answering questions, distributing brochures, and showcasing the wide range of study opportunities VUT offers, especially in engineering, information technology, and applied sciences. The university’s exhibition stand drew significant attention, with many learners expressing particular interest in the department’s specialised programmes.
Their excitement indicated the strong impression VUT made, with several students expressing a desire to pursue higher education at the institution.
To make the experience more interactive and memorable, the VUT team handed out branded key holders and other promotional items, which attendees warmly received.
One of the event’s hosts, Makungu Nkuna, emphasised the value of such initiatives, stating, “This event will influence our youth and help them make better decisions about their future in terms of careers so that they can become better citizens.”
The Career Expo was a resounding success, and the IEOMME department is proud to have played a vital role in empowering South Africa’s youth.
Events like these reflect VUT’s ongoing commitment to accessible education, community engagement, and national development.
