SHARPEVILLE.- The Relebohile Mofokeng Foundation Tournament has reached the semi-final stages.

This tournament is currently taking place at James and Pepsi grounds in Phelandaba, Sharpeville in the Vaal.

The semi-finals are scheduled to take place this coming Saturday.

This tournament is hosted by Orlando Pirates’ exciting forward Relebohile Mofokeng through his foundation. In fact, before the tournament, Mofokeng, in conjunction with FAR Post Media and Lucky Star Pilchards, hosted a successful coaches’ workshop and soccer clinics for local youngsters.

This workshop was attended by 50 local coaches from the Emfuleni Local Football Association and the Orange Farm Local Football Association. Mofokeng also launched his Foundation since the start of the tournament. The launch was attended by the who’s who in football, including Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo, among other notable names in South African football.

The launch took place in his hometown, Sharpeville.

The Mofokeng Foundation Tournament involves local junior soccer teams, ladies’ soccer teams, masters soccer teams, and senior soccer teams.
The two venues, James and Pepsi grounds, are packed to capacity on game days with local soccer fans and the Sharpeville community coming in big numbers to support their own.

This tournament is part of Mofokeng ploughing back into the community where he grew up. He started his football career on the dusty soccer grounds in Sharpeville. The tournament has reached the semi-final stages, where four teams will be competing for the final spot. Sechaba Mofokeng, the tournament coordinator, has hailed the tournament as a big thing happening in the Vaal.

He is overwhelmed by the support from the people of Vaal.

Mofokeng said the finals are scheduled to take place on July 20.
