This annual awareness campaign invites men to run 5km wearing nothing but a purple Speedo, challenging stigmas and encouraging early detection through testing to deal with life’s uncertainties.

More than just a run, this initiative is a powerful movement that gets people talking, testing, and taking action. This year, it is taking place on Friday, October 31.

The official launch of the 2025 Hollard Daredevil Run took place today at Hollard Campus in Parktown, Joburg, where funds raised from the 2024 event were formally handed over to our partners in the fight against male cancers – the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA), as well as the Prostate Cancer Foundation. A

pproximately R780 000 was raised. Hollard is topping this amount up to bring it to a total of R1 million, which will be used to increase awareness, reduce uncertainty around cancer testing, especially in areas that don’t often have access to essential screening that can save lives.

* First launched sixteen years ago, the Hollard Daredevil Run features a main event at Zoo Lake in Jozi, along with smaller runs in neighbourhoods, schools, and universities nationwide.

* Prostate cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in South African men. According to South Africa’s National Cancer Registry, 1 in 15 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. International data show that about 1 in 4 black men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer versus 1 in 8 white males.

* Although less widespread overall, testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men aged 15 to 35, affecting approximately 1 in every 2000 males. A simple one-minute shower self-examination to check for lumps, swelling, or changes in the testicles can save a young man’s life by promoting early detection of testicular cancer, which is highly treatable when caught early.
