School learners battle it out in Raga Bolo Schools Tournament

VANDERBIJLPARK.- Talent was on full display as township and multiracial schools battled it out in the Raga Bolo Schools Tournament at Cecil Oldridge Park (COP) soccer grounds on September 20.
Participating schools included Imfundo Middle School, Oliver Lodge Primary School, and Laerskool Hendrik Van Der Bijl.

Oliver Lodge Primary School reigned supreme, winning in all divisions, U10, U12, and U13. It was a great day for youth development, with young players showcasing their talent. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Kabelo Ramasia said the tournament aimed to celebrate unity, sportsmanship, and youthful talent by bringing together schools from diverse communities.

“The purpose is to foster integration and promote youth development through soccer,” he further explained.

Ramasia added that the tournament encourages interaction between diverse groups, nurturing understanding and respect.

“It is a platform for young players to display skills regardless of background. We are planning to host it as an annual seasonal tournament to cultivate ongoing engagement and growth. This was the first edition of the tournament, and it kicked off with great enthusiasm from players, supporters, and parents alike. We thank everyone for making this tournament a great success, especially those schools who responded positively to our invitation.”

Organisers are hopeful the tournament will expand in future editions, attracting more schools and even greater participation.
