Jomo Cosmos suffers a 2-0 defeat to La Masia in Vaal

Jomo Sono watched in disbelief when his chargers continued to fumble in front of goals.

VANDERBIJLPARK.- Jomo Cosmos suffered a 2-0 defeat to La Masia in the Gauteng ABC Motsepe League match.

This missed opportunity encounter took place at Isak Steyl Stadium in Vaal on Saturday afternoon.

Despite the chilly weather, local soccer fans, particularly La Masia fans, came in numbers to support their team, which is doing very well in this second-division league. La Masia is among the teams challenging the league title at the end of the season if their performance against Cosmos is anything to go by.

However, Cosmos should kick themselves for losing this game despite all the opportunities they created in the first 15 minutes. They were all over the visitors in the opening minutes of the game, but failed to convert their chances into goals. Cosmos’ bench watched in disbelief as their forward men continued to miss chances.

The game went to halftime locked at 0-0. However, this was not a true reflection of the game as the home team could have gone to halftime leading at least by 2-0. In the second half, La Masia came out more purposefully, forcing Cosmos to defend with their backs against the wall.

They brought in the A game in the second half, attacking Cosmos from all angles. Cosmos also created clear scoring opportunities, but like in the first half, they failed to hit the target, much to the frustration with their bench, especially their legendary head coach, Jomo Sono. He watched in disbelief when his chargers continued to fumble in front of goals.

The visitors capitalised on this as they found the back of the net twice in the second half and walked away with maximum points. It was game over.

WORD FROM COACH: Jomo Sono, “We could have wrapped up this game in the first half if we converted our chances into goals. I think 10 minutes into the games, we created more scoring opportunities than they. I do not doubt that we will bounce back in our next game.’
