Jomo Cosmos Academy hosts trials for young aspiring girls

"His pride is to see a young player succeed, not only in football but also in life.”

SEDIBENG.- In an attempt to revive their women’s soccer team, Jomo Cosmos will host trials for aspiring girls who want to pursue a career in this sport.

This was revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport by the club’s U15 coach, Motsamai ‘Bricks’ Nxokoane, who is also the U19 assistant coach.

Nxokoane was speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport after the Jomo Cosmos game against La Masia at Isak Steyl Stadium in Vanderbijlpark on Saturday. The former Cosmos defender said the trials are scheduled to take place at Cosmos Academy Training Grounds on November 29, and are open for girls aged 15 and older.

“We want to revive our women’s soccer team. The aim is to identify the best talent that will compete in the Gauteng Development League next season. As Jomo Cosmos, we also want to contribute to the growth of women’s football in this country. We all know what Bra J (Jomo Sono) has achieved as both a player and coach in South African football,” Nxokoane said.

“I was fortunate to play for his team and now be part of his development structure. I have learned a lot from him as a player and now as a coach. I was one of the lucky players from the Vaal to play for this club. Jomo Cosmos needs no introduction in South African football, especially Bra J. His contribution to South African football will never go unnoticed. When we look at the Bafana Bafana team that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1996, most of the players were from Jomo Cosmos. People like Bra J must receive their flowers while still alive for their contribution to the development of football in this country,” said Nxokoane.
