Millions invested as Midvaal boosts safety across the municipality

Over R18 million invested in technology, tools, and personnel to enhance crime prevention across Midvaal.

Midvaal Local Municipality (MLM) remains committed to building a safer community for everyone as part of its key Mayoral Undertaking.

This commitment was reaffirmed by Executive Mayor Peter Teixeira during a meeting with CPF structures from across Midvaal on November 20.

The current administration has invested more than R18m in enhancing community safety. This includes the distribution of 560 portable radios, 650 torches, and 300 reflector vests to patrollers, CPF members, and community groups to strengthen visibility and improve communication during safety operations.

According to the MLM, these tools have played an important role in supporting the daily work of volunteers and community safety partners.

Midvaal has also expanded its surveillance network, with more than 600 cameras now monitoring key areas. These include SNIPR license-plate-recognition cameras, high-site and solar-powered units, and advanced pan-tilt-zoom and thermal cameras that help protect municipal properties, infrastructure, and major traffic routes.

In addition, the municipality is finalising the recruitment of personnel for the Safety Unit Task Team. Once deployed, this team will conduct patrols across Midvaal in support of SAPS and CPF structures.

Teixeira says: “These ongoing investments show that the promise to prioritise safety was not made lightly. It is reflected in the municipal budget, strategic planning, and performance targets.”

The Municipality’s Safety Plan further strengthens this commitment by bringing together a wide network of partners, including SAPS, private security companies, CPF structures, Peace Officers, the Victim Empowerment Unit, Law Enforcement, and neighbourhood and block watch groups.

Teixera emphasised the importance of these partnerships.

“We remain dedicated to building safer communities and will continue investing in the tools, partnerships, and infrastructure needed to protect our residents.”
