SHARPEVILLE.- Perfect Academy mobbed with Morning Stars FC when they hammered them 6-0 in the SAFA Sedibeng Hollywood Men’s Regional League at George Thabe Stadium on Saturday.
This high-scoring one-sided fixture saw a “flood” of goals start as early as the first half, with Perfect Academy having a fun-filled day, while Stars FC never offered any resistance.
Perfect Academy supporters left convinced their team would be crowned league champions by the end of the season. Perfect Academy currently leads the log despite their shocking 3-2 defeat against SUBS at Qedilizwe ground in Evaton North recently.
They redeemed themselves, however, at the expense of Morning Stars over the weekend.
The loss against SUBS was attributed to a comedy of errors by their goalkeeper on the day, especially on the first goal. Last season, Perfect Academy started like a house on fire, only to surrender their lead to Young Pirates FC.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport ahead of their game against Metro Stars at Isak Steyl Stadium on Saturday, coach Mofokeng said it is one game at a time. He indicated they had learned from last season’s mistakes and would avoid putting themselves under unnecessary pressure this time. He added their defeat against SUBS was a huge wake-up call to the players not to become complacent.
“We had decent pre-season preparations playing against Orlando Pirates Reserve Team, which was a good measure of our readiness for the season. Our win against Morning Stars FC is now water under the bridge; our focus is now on our weekend game against Metro Stars FC. They are a good team and I have no doubt that it is going to be an exciting game come Saturday,” said Mofokeng.
