DE DEUR – Police nabbed 10 undocumented people during a multi-disciplinary Provincial Operation Vala Umgodi on December 10.
The operation was carried out across various areas in Deur. Police spokesperson Constable Mapho Mahlomola reports that another suspect was arrested for rape and assault GBH.
The operation commenced with a parade that was held at Walkerville Spar.
“The parade was opened with a solemn prayer, followed by the reading of the South African Police Service Code of Conduct. The reading of this code of conduct serves to remind members of the importance of aligning themselves with the code of conduct and the oath that they have taken.”
Operation Vala Umgodi’s main objective is to combat and prevent illegal mining and associated serious crimes like murder, human trafficking, and illegal possession of firearms. The operation aims to stop the theft of valuable minerals and close down illegal mining operations.
The operation was joined by members from various police stations in Sedibeng District, as well as Siyabangena patrollers. Mahlomola states that patrols were intensified in identified hot spot areas, with members increasing visibility in order to clamp down on lawlessness.
The overall commander of the operation, Captain Mzimkhulu Mthimkulu, welcomed the arrests and applauded members for executing their duties professionally and with integrity.
