Tragic end to search for missing women

The remains of Nontokozo Mazibuko (25) and Andiswa Sontangane (25), who went missing on December 30, were discovered on Thursday.

EVATON – The search for two young women who went missing has ended in tragedy following the discovery of their bodies along the R28, Randfontein Road on January 8.

Nontokozo Mazibuko (25) and Andiswa Sontangane (25) were last seen at a local soccer ground in Evaton on December 30. Their remains were discovered on Thursday and later positively identified by their families.

Families and community members had been desperately searching for the two women since their disappearance, hoping for their safe return.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said the two women were reported missing on December 31. Masondo confirmed that their bodies were discovered in Poortjie, south of Johannesburg, on January 8

“A multidisciplinary team consisting of various units within the South African Police Service was established to search for the victims. A case of double murder has since been opened for investigation.”

Masondo stated that police are following up on several leads adding that a manhunt is underway, and suspects are being sought.
