Boipatong derby lives up to expectations
This local derby had extra meaning, as Moponisi United owner Philip Ndlovu was previously involved with the now-defunct team, The Birds, which later became Boipatong FC.
BOIPATONG.- Boipatong FC and Moponisi United shared the points on Sunday following a 1-1 draw in their local derby at Boipatong Stadium.
The match, part of the SAFA Sedibeng Hollywoodbets Men’s Regional League, was an entertaining affair with the Boipatong community enjoying every moment of the action.
Boipatong FC supporters created a lively atmosphere in the stands, singing and cheering their team throughout the match. This local derby had extra meaning, as Moponisi United owner Philip Ndlovu was previously involved with the now-defunct team, The Birds, which later became Boipatong FC.

There was tension all over the stadium, both on and off the field, with tempers flaring every time decisions went against the home side. This game was one of the best fixtures of the weekend.
Both teams were desperate for maximum points to close the gap at the top of the league table.
Boipatong FC and Moponisi United are currently in fifth and sixth place respectively, both on 17 points after nine matches. Perfect Academy remains top of the log with 24 points and a game in hand, despite not playing over the weekend.
Metro Star FC is second with 23 points from 10 games, while Ben 10 FC is third with 20 points and a game in hand.
Back at Boipatong Stadium, both goals were scored in the first half. Boipatong FC took an early lead, but Moponisi United fought back to level the score at 1-1.
