Former ELM Mayor graces celebration at elderly home

"From the bottom of our hearts, on behalf of Zilisimenye Elderly Home, we want to thank everyone who came to support this initiative."

SHARPEVILLE.- A former mayor of the Emfuleni Local Municipality, Dikeledi Tsotetsi, was among the guests who graced the Zilisimenye Elderly Home ‘High Tea’ fundraising celebration.

This fundraising celebration took place at the centre on Saturday (March 7).

The founder, Khululekile Dyarvane, who is also the centre manager, described this event as the best thing to have happened at the centre since its formation back in 2015. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Dyarvane said it was heartwarming to see how families and the community care.

He told Sedibeng Ster that he was overwhelmed by the heartfelt support they received from donors, families, staff, and the local community, who came together to honour the elderly. He said it was a day well spent with the elderly, who shared some interesting stories of their past.

Tsotetsi was one of the guest speakers. This ‘High Tea’ celebration was to raise funds for the centre to have electricity. According to Dyarvane, they have been without electricity for a while now. He said that with winter coming, it is important for the centre to have electricity to keep the elderly warm.

He revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport that they will have another fundraising event in the form of a Fun Run on April 11.

“We want to thank our donors, families, staff, and everyone for the role they played to make this event a success. I was encouraged by the words of our guest speaker, Mme Ma Tsotetsi, when she reminded us that ‘our elderly are the caregivers of yesterday, and tomorrow we will be the elderly in need of care’. From the bottom of our hearts, on behalf of Zilisimenye Elderly Home, we want to thank everyone who came to support this initiative. We are looking forward to having many of these events in the future,” he concluded.
