ANC Gauteng announces plans to work with EFF in ELM and SDM

ANC Gauteng works with different coalition partners.

SEDIBENG.- Following the reconfiguration of the Gauteng Provincial Government this week, the African National Congress (ANC in Gauteng has announced plans to work with the Economic Freedom Front (EFF) in the Sedibeng District Municipality and the Emfuleni Local Municipality respectively.

The ANC Gauteng Provincial Task Team (PTT) said, in a statement, that it welcomed the decision by Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi, to reconfigure the Provincial Executive Council/Cabinet, in what it said is part of efforts to strengthen governance and improve service delivery across the province.

EFF Gauteng Chair appointed MEC of Finance

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Provincial Chairperson, Nkululeko Dunga, has been appointed as Gauteng’s MEC for Finance, the announcement was made on Wednesday.

“The ANC Gauteng PTT views this development as a necessary and responsive step to ensure that government remains effective, focused, and capable of meeting the expectations of the people of Gauteng, particularly following the successful passing of the 2025/2026 Adjustment Budget, which provides the necessary mandate and resources to drive this work forward,” said Mzi Khumalo, ANC Gauteng Provincial Spokesperson.

We continue to work with the EFF and other political parties

Although it has not been mentioned yet how the ANC Gauteng will be working with the EFF in both the SDM and ELM, the ANC Gauteng statement said,

“We thank the ANC National Officials for allowing Gauteng leadership to engage in negotiations with various political parties, which led to the reconfigured Gauteng, Government of Provincial Unity (GPU). To this end, the ANC Gauteng PTT welcomes the decision of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) to participate in the Government of Provincial Unity (GPU). We continue to work with the EFF and other political parties in coalition governments in Johannesburg, Tshwane, Mogale City, and West Rand District Municipality. We will also be working with the EFF in Sedibeng District and Emfuleni Local Municipality, respectively.”

The decision will not benefit the residents of Gauteng

Meanwhile, the Democratic Alliance (DA) said that this decision by Premier Lesufi will not benefit the residents of Gauteng but will draw the EFF into the executive for him to have an alliance ahead of the local government elections later this year.

” Instead of focusing on ensuring that all municipalities in the province function properly and can deliver basic services, he has given in to the threats made by the EFF to destabilise the province, after Dunga was removed as the MMC for Finance in the City of Ekurhuleni. Lesufi’s decision is a clear indication that he cares little about the needs of the residents of this province. Premier Lesufi should focus on ensuring that all his departments are delivering basic services to our residents and should not, on a whim, decide to change his executive to give one political party its way.”
