RDP houses for sale poster is a fake: SDM

The SDM does not sell houses!

SEDIBENG.- The Sedibeng District Municipality (SDM) has warned the public that a poster circulating about “RDP houses for sale” in Savannah City is false and misleading.

The municipality said that it does not sell houses and is not involved in any direct sale of RDP or government-subsidised housing.

“In terms of South African legislation, housing delivery falls under government programmes guided by the Housing Act, 1997 (Act No. 107 of 1997) and the National Housing Code, where qualifying beneficiaries receive housing support — not commercial property sales.”

Report suspected fraud to authorities

Furthermore, the SDM said, “The Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996 (Section 26) states that everyone has the right to access adequate housing, and government must take reasonable measures to progressively realise this right. This process does not include the sale of RDP houses by municipalities.”

Members of the public are urged to remain cautious and not engage with or make payments based on this advertisement and to report suspected fraud to the relevant authorities.
