ATM bombing in Zone 10

"Approximately four to five heavy explosions were heard."

SEBOKENG. – The community members of Zone 7, Lengweleng, Small Farm and Zone 10 Extension 3 were awoken by heavy bombing in the early hours of this morning, Saturday.

Approximately four to five heavy explosions were heard when the Capitec Bank’s Automated Teller Machine (ATM) at the Engine Garage in Zone 10 Extension 3 was bombed by what are said to be heavily armed men.

The ATM is located in the vicinity of Zone 7, Lengweleng, Small Farm and Zone 10 Extension 3.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Noxolo Khweza confirmed the bombing.

“Police are investigating an ATM bombing charge after an ATM was bombed at a petrol garage in Ext 2 (sic), Sebokeng during the early hours.”

Khweza said that the suspects fired shots as they escaped with undisclosed cash. 

“No one was injured, no arrest at this stage and police investigations are continuing. Possibility of other charges being added cannot be ruled out,” Khweza said.
