Ward 28 evictions fuel political clash between ANC and DA in Emfuleni

“An african family’s home was demolished.”

SEDIBENG. – The ANC in the Sedibeng Region’s latest poster claiming the DA is responsible for evictions in Ward 28, Beverly Hills, has been refuted as fake by the DA.

The DA said the poster is completely out of touch with reality.

In the poster, the ANC said that hardly two months after the DA won the award, they are evicting people and that the DA has never cared for black people or the poor.

“What on earth are their members doing there, in full colours, when people are being evicted? They must clarify their stance; they must respond and explain,” asked an ANC member who wished to remain anonymous.

In May, the DA won the former ANC stronghold with 32.36% of the vote, growing from just 14.21% in 2021 and 19.31% in 2024.

ANC Sedibeng Secretary Jason Mkhwane said the fact remains that, “An african family’s home was demolished.”

The DA should be explaining to residents what it is doing to address their concerns.

He added that instead of wasting time branding an ANC poster as “fake news”, the DA should be explaining to residents what it is doing to address their concerns and to prevent similar incidents in future.

“We stand by our conviction: the DA does not care about our communities. The ANC will continue to expose their lies and hold them accountable.”

DA’s ELM Mayor elect, Kingsol Chabalala, said that the removals were being conducted by firms/companies, and rightful owners of the stands that had been illegally sold to innocent people to occupy and build houses.

Ward councillors do not evict residents and that evictions are legal processes handled by the courts, the Sheriff, and municipal officials in line with PIE Act procedures.

Meanwhile, the DA in Emfuleni said that ward councillors do not evict residents and that evictions are legal processes handled by the courts, the Sheriff, and municipal officials in line with PIE Act procedures.

The party added that the publication of the poster is nothing but a desperate and dishonest trick from a party (ANC) that has run out of ideas and has nothing to show for 30 years of governing Sedibeng and Emfuleni.

“Instead of fixing water, electricity, and housing, the ANC chooses to spread lies to divide communities. The DA will not be distracted. We remain focused on service delivery, accountability, and fighting for every resident in Emfuleni — regardless of politics.”
