SEDIBENG.- The much-anticipated Relebohile Mofokeng Foundation rematch final between Major 1 FC and Tshepiso Barcelona FC is yet to be played.

This final was postponed due to darkness at James Ground in Sharpeville on July 19.

The new date for this rematch final was scheduled at George Thabe Stadium but was cancelled again.

“For now, we have decided to stop playing until something has been done.

Sedibeng Ster Sport has learned that there are fears among the teams and the soccer fans about their safety at the grounds. This follows unruly behaviour by gangsters, who are allegedly from initiation schools, that interrupt kasi soccer tournaments in the Vaal.

Videos are circulating on social media showing groups interrupting the soccer tournaments.

This happened at the Sharpeville and Bophelong soccer grounds.

Sedibeng Ster Sport was supposed to cover one of these kasi soccer tournaments but was advised it was not safe. This unfortunate situation has since scared local soccer fans from attending these popular kasi tournaments.

This is the new trend in the Vaal, with some of these groups coming to the soccer grounds and attacking people.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, most soccer fans said it will be difficult for them to attend them again.

“We are worried about what is happening to our kasi soccer tournaments. This is the new trend in the Vaal, with some of these groups coming to the soccer grounds and attacking people. Our advice to the soccer tournament organisers is to beef up security or invite the police to their games.

People’s cars get trashed by these groups, and we have no idea why.

It will be very difficult to go and watch these tournaments, especially the festive soccer tournaments. I think even the police are scared of them.

The question is what is happening in this region? How did we end up here? Football doesn’t need this kind of situation,” local soccer fans said to Sedibeng Ster Sport. Their sentiments were echoed by some of the coaches whose teams regularly feature in these kasi soccer tournaments.

They told Sedibeng Ster Sport that they are worried about safety.

“For now, we have decided to stop playing until something has been done. This is the second tournament that was disrupted, and we don’t know what’s next,” they told Sedibeng Ster Sport.
