VEREENIGING.- Work is ongoing at the intersection of Klip River Drive and Houtkop Road, now Duma Nokwe Road, in Three Rivers.

This is after years of collapsed stormwater infrastructure had left the system unable to properly collect and redirect water.

Addressing ongoing work, the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) said that the consequences were becoming increasingly serious, with uncontrolled water contributing to the deterioration of the road and creating an inconvenience and safety concern for residents and motorists who use the route to Rissivile, Heidelberg, and just into Three Rivers.

“This was not treated as just another item to be noted, recorded and left somewhere in a municipal file,” ELM said, adding that the mayor, working with the Project Management Unit under the leadership of the MMC for Infrastructure, directed that a solution must be found.

Friday is increasingly becoming an opportunity for the ELM to close the week not merely with meetings, reports and resolutions, but with tangible service delivery.

“That directive has now become visible on the ground; a contractor is on site. Work is underway. The damaged infrastructure and road are receiving the attention they require, and the objective is clear: restore the road to a usable condition as quickly as reasonably possible. Importantly, the mayor and MMC Lewaak did not simply issue instructions and walk away. They conducted an oversight visit to assess progress, engage directly with the contractor and establish whether any challenges could potentially delay the work.”

ELM said that every Friday is increasingly becoming an opportunity for the ELM to close the week not merely with meetings, reports and resolutions, but with tangible service delivery visible on the ground.
